I am an assistant professor in the School of Public Administration at the University of New Mexico. My research generally examines how federal and state policies affect healthcare access and use in the United States, with a particular focus on maternal and reproductive healthcare and on healthcare access among American Indian and Alaska Native populations. I am interested in understanding how federal and state policies (e.g., Medicaid expansion and abortion bans) either improve outcomes or contribute to health disparities for historically underserved populations. Leveraging administrative and publicly available data, my research has explored how federal- and state-level policies affect access to postpartum contraceptive care and abortion care. Before joining UNM, I was a health economist at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (2021-2026) and an assistant professor of economics at Sam Houston State University (2018-2021).
